AN INTRODUCTION OF DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Separated from Faculty of General Sciences, Department of Foreign Languages ​​has become an independent unit under the direct control of Board of Presidents in accordance with Decision No.1921 / QD –DHHN as of September 19, 2011 issued by the President of Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment. Starting at 11 lecturers, the Department has grown to 20 members (excluding part-time lecturers). They are 2 pre-doctoral fellows, 12 masters, 1 attending postgraduate course and 5 bachelors. With the enthusiastic and experienced teaching staffs, Department of Foreign Languages ​​develops as followed:  

1.Vision and mission:

1.1. Vision:

Department of Foreign Languages ​​constantly innovates and improves its quality and quantity of lecturers to fulfill its mission of foreign language training at HUNRE. Moreover, the Department has expanded the scope of activities to become one of the highest - qualified English training institutions in the area. We are committed to enrich students’ knowledge of foreign languages, culture of English speaking countries and enhance their capability of international integration.

1.2. Mission:

Department of Foreign Languages has a passion for striking innovation in teaching as well as doing scientific research in order to bring a high-quality environment of studying foreign languages for HUNRE students and social community. At the same time, the Department concentrates on meeting the demand of human resources who are fluent in using English for environmental purposes. This contributes positively to Vietnam economic development.

2. Functions:

·        To be responsible for the content, quality, and schedule of both teaching and learning of foreign language courses in accordance with HUNRE curriculum.

Develop and revise the content of English courses, curriculum development, and reference materials related to foreign language courses which are assigned by the Manager of the Department and HUNRE President.

·      Research to improve methods of teaching, testing, and evaluation, as well as organizing academic activities in order to enhance the quality of foreign language training courses.

·        Implement scientific researches and technological development specialized in foreign languages ​​in conformity with the plan of the Department and the University. Additionally, it is important to take initiative in coordinating educational institutions, scientific and technological organizations with  goods and services businesses in order to combine training and scientific research with operating activities and social life. Furthermore, the Department expects to provide additional funds for the University through social services and international cooperation.

·        Make plans to increase the number of teaching staffs and scientific members of the Department; participate in training foreign languages for scientists​​.

·        Evaluate the capacity of management, training, applying science and technology  of  individuals, the Department, the Faculties and the University as the request of the Manager, the President and the Board of Presidents.

·        Manage the facilities of the Department.

3. Outstanding performance:

With regards to teaching foreign languages,the  Foreign Language Department ensures the effectiveness and the teaching quality. The Department’s members try their best to improve their teaching quality and curriculum development with the relevant content and structure. Also, we often organize scientific seminars to discuss topics and share the expertise and teaching experience with the aim of learning and updating professional knowledge.

 4. Development orientation:

The development orientation of Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment is becoming the fundamental university in the area. The Foreign Languages Department determines to improve all aspects to commensurate with the overall stature of the University. Due to that, the Department contributes to produce human resources with the high-qualified expertise in foreign languages ​​under the current circumstance of the international integration of environment and resources sector in particular and society in general. Finally, we strive to build  outstanding staffs in teaching foreign languages for the purpose of international integration and supporting other units in translation and foreign affairs.
