On 1^st of November 2016, Dr. Donald R. Back - Director, Language and Culture Institute, Outreach and International Affairs, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) - USA visited and worked with Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE).

From HUNRE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quy Nhan - Vice President of HUNRE and several representatives from Faculty of Environment; Department of Foreign Language; Department of Science, Technology and International Relations attended the meeting.

Virginia Tech - USA was founded in 1872 and is known as the largest public research university in Virginia. Virginia Tech has over 90 undergraduate programs and 150 graduate programs with 31,000 full-time students in which more than 3,500 international students from over 90 countries. Language and Culture Institute of Virginia Tech was established in 1974. The Institute has more than 75 professional faculties and staff members and serves more than 500 students from over 50 countries.

At the meeting, both sides exchanged information, shared their experiences about many fields. For example, they exchanged cooperative chances to improve the intensive English Program for HUNRE lecturer and students. Both sides also drew the potential cooperative plan for in the future and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
